As we got to know, Casteddu in Sardinian or Caralis  in Latin are two of the names of the splendid city of Cagliari which is il capoluogo (capital city) of Ichnusa. The Sardinian name means Castle and could derive from the Catalan-Aragonese name Castell de Caller in the Catalan language.  On the other hand, it’s supposed to be the literal translation of the ancient Roman name of the city, i.e. Caralis/Karalis (the root “kar” means “stone/rock” in lots of Mediterranean languages while the suffix “ar/al” gives simply a collective value).
