Or simply …… Kalimera, “My Summer” …… Kalimera, Cyprus :
The general mildness of the Cypriot weather the year round is mainly due to its southern location in the Mediterranean Sea and its Subtropical-Mediterranean climate. Summer is known as the “dry season” and is characterized by a continuous bright, warm and attractive sunshine. It principally lasts 12 hours a day. In winter months the island gets more rainfall than any other time of the year and that’s why this period of time is known as the “wet season” or “rainy period”. Snow is possible only in the mountainous range of Troodos in the central part of island of Cyprus.
Here are our my humble pieces of advice about what to wear in Cyprus during the different seasons of the year.
The weather is pleasantly and nicely warm but the temperatures in the evenings can drop in spring time. When I say in spring, I mean in April and May. Spring and summer light apparel, long sleeved tops and long sleeves are a splendid choice for the island.
Summer in Cyprus stretches from the month of June to the end of the month of August. This means high temperatures, cloudless skies and cooling breezes from the sea and coastal areas. Or in other words said, paradise. So, pack lightweight clothing, long cotton dresses, short tops, T-shirts, sleeve-less shirts, skirts and (high-waisted) shorts. Inevitable part of your luggage will be swimsuits in summer (and for enthusiasts in winter). It’s recommended to wear flat shoes for the evening, hiking sandals for the day and flip flops for the beach like it is in Hellas.
In autumn months (I mean – September, Octoberand November) the weather is a little bit cooler and some long sleeved tops won’t hurt. November has pleasantly warm days but light jumpers and light jackets are already recommended.
December and January are the only winter months in Cyprus. That’s my island! 🙂 As a matter of fact, the weather is like autumn to many visitors. It might rain occasionally. Winter clothing is necessary, but not heavy coats.
February faces occasional rainfall, too, and it’s reasonable still to wear winter apparel since mid-daytime temperatures could be higher but evenings can get quite cold. In March winter wear will also be appropriate as the weather is moderate, changeable and unpredictable like the English weather.
